RODRIGO VILLALON: Infos

Rodrigo was born in 1984 in Tübingen, Germany. Shortly after his birth his parents (both Musicians) decided to move to the mother’s homeland (Colombia). Music has always been a part Of Rodrigo’s life; he started playing traditional Latin-American percussion instruments at a young Age, moving on to take lessons in violin, piano, musical theory and drums.

At the same time he founded the jazz-band "Latin Sampling" at the German School of his home City Barranquilla. The quintet played at several international jazz festivals such as Fesujazz, Sierra Mar y Jazz and Barranquijazz, climbing a first peak in 2002 by winning the award for best young Jazz-band at the "Jugend jazzt"-Festival in Bonn-Germany. The prize consisted of the production of a CD accompanied by a course of studies at the Conservatory for Young Musicians in Hamburg.

At age 19 Rodrigo started his music studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim. In the fall of 2006 he moved to Cologne to finish 2010 his studies at the University of Music In Cologne Germany. With his two band colleagues Juan Camilo Villa (bass) and Bruno Böhmer Camacho(piano) founded together the "Bruno Böhmer Camacho Trio", which published in 2008 the debut album "Herencias". Which was praised at a national and international level very much. In 2011 the trio recorded the album "Nostalgic vision," his first album for Sony Classical. The music on it is characterized by beautiful melodies, a nostalgic point of view that combines Caribbean jazz music with pop-oriented sounds.

He currently lives in Germany doing own projects, playing as a sideman with important musicians of the scene in Europe, and giving workshops for Percussion and Drums, based on Latin rhythms, jazz and pop.

His expertise and creativity have allowed him to take part in several productions (drums & percussion) such as the German National Jazz Orchestra with Peter Herbolzheimer, Mark Medlock & Dieter Bohlen, Wolfgang Niedecken(Bap), Jörg Reiter, Dave King, Mannheim Jazz Orchestra, University of Music Cologne - Big Band, NDR Big Band , HR (frankfurt Radio)Big Band, Kicks & Sticks Big Band, Heavytones (TV Total , Pro7 Germany), Miami Nights Musical, Lion King Musical (Disney), Tania Maria, Benny Golson (Jazz Messengers), Joe Gallardo, Mansour Jafari (persian Popstar), Edmar Castañeda (Harp- Jazz Star) and many more.
